Watch it, in fact watch it twice :)
There are moments when you see something and its just a "Wooaahhh!" and totally blown away moment. I kinda had one of those tonight. See, I'm a sucker for music, for iconography and imagery. Things get under my skin and stay there and I like it. It reminds me not to be so sceptical about things all the damn time.
Tonight Bryan Danielson retweeted a link to a 'tribute' to him on YouTube. Now its not the traditional tribute. There's no sickly song of fangirl love. This is a video that sums him up as a wrestler so far and to me, as the future of the business. If you haven't watched it already, go back up and watch it. Right to the end, no skipping or this won't make sense.
Bryan is committed. He clearly loves the business. He's done his time, paid his dues and I respect him hugely for that. He takes the bumps and tears down the house every match whether there's two people watching or twenty thousand. After getting released the guy went back to numerous small indie feds and wrestled for them to crowds of less than 200 people. You can say he's been told to do it, maybe he has, but he's still out there with a terrible schedule travelling all over the place just like he used to do before NXT came his way. In fact, he's about go back to the fledgling fed that he was talking about starting with someone else he knew and wrestle for them this weekend. You can't buy that in people and its a rare quality in a generation of wrestlers where a lot get their spot more easily than the vets ever did.
So I just wanted to have this on my journal to remind me that every time someone tells me wrestling is dying, that there is nothing left to do, nowhere left to go that there is. There is a future, in this case trained by the best of the past, there is another way that the business lives on without the glamour and HD broadcast that seems to be slowly turning a concept, a product most of my flist love, into nothing more than a soap with tits and ass in it.
I don't demand blood, I despise blading but I'm not pro or anti-PG. All I want is for someone like Danielson to get his boots on, get in that ring and entertain me in the way that only certain wrestlers have ever done. As Orton, Cena, Hunter, Jericho, Edge and Christian all age and start to branch out and/or move on as they will then I want someone like Danielson to be bringing up the rear with the new wave. I want the better parts of the Nexus and NXT rookies, the Third Gen kids who won't fuck this all up because they know what they do represents where they're from.
So, epic rant is epic. My house partly flooded today and I just needed to let off some steam - maybe all the heat will get some of the water out, right?
Oh, and fwiw, myself and a co-conspirator called Danielson to break the streak. Now that I want to see. You read it here first ;)
